FriiSpray and Ignite UK North

FriiSpray in action through the lense of a phone

A few of us at Old Broadcasting House have been working on FriiSpray for a while in our spare time. It's a virtual graffiti screen that uses a WiiRemote and a spray can with a infra red LED in it. It's been a fun project and a great example of the opportunities and ideas that sometimes come your way in a co-working space.

We've been doing some testing this week and I've been ironing out some bugs in the Flash graffiti paint interface. It all had to be ready for Ignite UK North when we finally going to show it off and let people play with it. We had a slight problem with stray infra red sources in the room, but we got it all working and people seemed to really like it.

Stuart and I did a presentation at the event on how the project had come about. I've never done a talk in front of such a big group, but it went pretty well and the number of people who came to talk to us afterwards was fantastic.

Ignite was a fantastic event and probably one of my favourites of all time. Talking was also a lot of fun and I'm really pleased I got the chance.

We'd like other people to be able to duplicate what we've done on FriiSpray and find out more, so there is a FriiSpray website dedicated to this project. We've not got as much time as we'd like to work on FriiSpray, but hopefully we'll get to develop it more and show it at more places. There's already a few gigs planned.

We had a lot of fun with FriiSpray, but we don't work on it anymore and the website is no longer up. You can find the source code on GitHub.
